Listen to the Story
Dive into this classic Panchatantra story where three fish friends face a fisherman’s net, proving that while luck is a gift, your choices and quick thinking are what truly save the day.

The Warning in the Water
In a beautiful lake lived three fish: Anagata (The Planner), Pratyu (The Quick-Thinker), and Yad (The Lazy One). One evening, Anagata overheard two fishermen talking by the shore. 'This lake is full of big fish,' one said. 'Let’s come back tomorrow morning with our nets!' Anagata rushed to his friends. 'We must leave through the canal to the river tonight!' he cried. But the others just swam away.

Two Ways to React
Anagata didn't wait; he swam through the narrow canal to the safety of the river immediately. The next morning, the fishermen arrived and cast their wide nets. Pratyu and Yad were caught! Pratyu didn't panic. He thought quickly and held his breath, staying perfectly still so he looked like a dead fish. When the fishermen emptied the net on the bank, they threw the dead Pratyu back into the water, and he zipped away to safety.

The Cost of Laziness
Poor Yad, however, believed only in fate. He thought, 'If I am meant to die, I will die.' He didn't try to hide, jump, or play dead. He simply flopped around in the net until the fishermen took him home. By the end of the day, Anagata was safe because he planned ahead, Pratyu was safe because he acted fast, but Yad was lost because he did nothing at all.

What We Learn
Three fish react differently to a fisherman’s net - one plans ahead, one thinks fast, and one learns too late that luck favors the prepared.
