The Powerful Demon
Long ago, there was a terrible demon named Mahishasura. He was no ordinary demon - he could change his shape! Sometimes he looked like a buffalo, sometimes like a man.
The demon Mahishasura was granted a boon that he could not be killed by a man or a god. He became so powerful that he defeated all the gods and took over heaven.
The gods were scared and sad. Mahishasura had become so strong that no one could stop him.

The Creation of Durga
The gods decided they needed a special warrior to defeat Mahishasura. They combined all their powers to create a powerful goddess - Durga.
Each god gave her a special weapon. Her eyes blazed with power, her skin shone like gold, and she rode a mighty lion.
"Only you can defeat this demon," the gods told her. Durga accepted their challenge with a fierce smile.

The Great Battle
Mahishasura laughed when he saw Durga. "A woman will fight me?" he mocked. But Durga was not afraid. She rode into battle on her lion, her weapons shining brightly.
The battle was fierce! Mahishasura changed shapes over and over - from a buffalo to a lion, from a man to an elephant. Each time he changed, Durga fought back with even more power.
Finally, Mahishasura turned into a huge buffalo. He charged at Durga with all his might. But Durga was ready. With a powerful roar, she jumped on the buffalo and struck him with her trident.
"Your time of evil is over!" she declared.
With one final, mighty blow, Durga defeated Mahishasura. The demon fell, and heaven was free again.
