A Shadow in the Hollow

A crow couple lived happily in a nest atop a massive banyan tree. Their joy turned to grief when a fierce black snake moved into a hollow at the tree's base. Whenever the crows laid eggs, the wicked snake slithered up and ate them. Heartbroken, the crows went to their wise friend, the jackal, for advice, as they were too small to fight the powerful snake themselves.

The Royal Heist

The wise jackal suggested a clever plan: 'Use the king's men to do your work.' The next morning, the female crow flew to the royal palace lake where the queen was bathing. While the royal guards watched from the shore, the crow swooped down, picked up a dazzling diamond necklace from the queen's jewelry tray, and flew away loudly drawing attention to herself.

Justice Served

Shouting and waving their swords, the royal guards chased the crow back to the banyan tree. As planned, the crow dropped the shimmering necklace directly into the snake's hollow. When the guards peered inside, the angry black snake hissed at them. Terrified but determined to retrieve the necklace, the guards attacked the snake, defeating it before reclaiming the jewelry and returning to the palace.
