The Mystery of the Mountain

Long ago, people noticed something strange in the Kangra Valley. Inside a rocky cave, bright tongues of flame were dancing out of the cracks in the stones. But here was the twist - there was no wood, no coal, and no oil to keep the fire burning! The local villagers were amazed. They realized these weren't ordinary flames. They believed the fire was a sign of Jwala Ji, a powerful goddess who showed her energy through light and heat. They built a beautiful temple around these 'Eternal Flames' so that everyone could come and see the wonder for themselves.

The King's Big Test

Word of the magical fire spread far and wide until it reached a powerful King named Akbar. He was a very curious man, but he found it hard to believe that a fire could burn without any fuel. 'I will put it out!' he declared. First, he tried to pour streams of water over the flames, but the fire kept dancing. Then, he tried to cover the flames with heavy iron plates, but the fire simply found a way around them. No matter what he did, the golden flames stayed bright. Seeing this, the King realized that there are some wonders in this world that science and power cannot explain. He bowed his head in respect and even offered a golden umbrella to the temple as a gift.

The Goddess of Light Today

Today, thousands of children and their families visit the Jwala Devi Temple. When you walk inside, you won't find a statue made of stone or metal. Instead, you see nine different flames glowing from the walls. Each flame has a name, and they have been burning for hundreds and hundreds of years. The air smells of incense, and the sound of bells rings through the mountains. It reminds everyone who visits that the world is full of light and warmth, and that some mysteries are meant to be celebrated, not just solved.
