Trouble in the Forest

Once upon a time, in a faraway forest, the five brave Pandava brothers—Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva—were living in exile with their kind and wise wife, Draupadi. Every day, Draupadi worked hard to cook food and take care of everyone, even though they had very little.

One day, many guests came to visit the Pandavas in the forest. Draupadi was worried. "How will I feed so many people when we barely have anything ourselves?" she sighed.

Her heart was full of love, but her kitchen was almost empty.

A Divine Visitor

Just when Draupadi felt most helpless, Lord Krishna appeared with a warm smile. “Draupadi,” he said gently, “why do you look so worried?”

She told him everything—how they had so many guests and no food to serve them. Krishna walked into the kitchen, peeked into her empty pot, and smiled. “Ah! There’s one grain of rice left!” he said, picking it up and eating it.

Then, Krishna closed his eyes and blessed them. “From now on, you will never run out of food,” he said. “This is my gift to you.”

The Akshaya Patra

Suddenly, in Draupadi’s hands appeared a magical pot—the Akshaya Patra! It was a divine vessel that would never run out of food until everyone had eaten. Everytime it became empty, it would fill to the brim again.

From that day on, no matter how many guests came, there was always enough to eat. Draupadi served every visitor with love and joy, and the Pandavas never had to worry about hunger again.

This special day when Lord Krishna gave them the Akshaya Patra is remembered as Akshaya Tritiya—a day that brings endless blessings and reminds us that kindness, faith, and sharing are always rewarded.
