Arjuna and the Bird's Eye Test
How Arjuna Became the Best Archer
Listen to the Story
This famous story from the Mahabharata highlights Arjuna's unmatched focus and dedication. It teaches the importance of concentration in achieving excellence.

The Guru’s Challenge
One day, Guru Dronacharya gathered his students for an archery test. He placed a wooden bird on a tree and asked each student to aim at its eye. Before shooting, he asked them what they saw.

Different Answers
As each student took their turn, they described what they saw. Yudhishthira mentioned the tree, its strong trunk, and the branches supporting the bird. Bhima observed the swaying branches and the bird perched on them. Nakula noticed the sunlight filtering through the leaves, creating patterns on the bird, while Sahadeva pointed out the sky behind the tree and the drifting clouds. Duryodhana focused on the bird’s feathers and its posture, whereas Karna claimed to see everything—the tree, the branches, the bird, and even the movement of the leaves in the wind. However, when it was Arjuna’s turn, he simply said, "I see only the bird’s eye." Guru Dronacharya was pleased, for this was the true test of focus and concentration.

The Perfect Shot
Dronacharya asked Arjuna to shoot, and his arrow struck the bird’s eye perfectly. He praised Arjun, explaining that true focus means eliminating distractions.
